Lesson 05
Lesson 05 ~ Hotplate Basics in Encaustic Art
Using a hotplate for encaustic art working can be very creative and productive. In the simplest form a hotplate can provide a stable heated palette for making wax paints molten and keeping them fluid, for mixing and keeping unpowered tools warm. Stable temperature is required. And in a more immediate and creative manner, the hotplate can be used far more directly as an actual heated surface where working support material is laid. Artwork of many styles can be accomplished with relative ease and often remarkable speed. In this hotplate format the artwork remains workable and re-workable, enabling experimentation.
